1. Splice Integration in the Browser
One of the most significant changes in Studio One 7 is the seamless integration with Splice, a popular platform for samples and loops. Here’s what you can expect:
- Direct Connection to Your Splice Account
- You can easily connect to your existing Splice account, making it simple to access your favorite samples without any extra steps.
- Automatic Time Stretching
- No more Splice Bridge! Samples you drag from Splice now automatically time stretch to fit your song’s tempo. This is a huge time-saver, especially for fast-paced projects. ⏱️
- Sample Management
- When you drag a sample into your project, it gets downloaded directly to your media folder. This keeps your library organized and makes it easy to find what you need later.
- Splice AI Recommendations
- The new Splice AI feature allows you to drag anything into it and receive similar recommendations. It’s like having a personal assistant to help you discover new sounds! 🤖
- Free Trials and Exclusive Access
- Free 7-Day Trial: Any user can test Splice for free for seven days.
- Existing Users: You can sign into your account from the Splice tab for full access.
- Studio One+ Users: New Splice accounts for Studio One+ users gain access to a library of 2,500 curated loops and samples.
- Studio One Pro 7 Users: You can sign up for an exclusive Splice “Unlimited” plan, offering unlimited access at a low monthly or annual rate.
2. AI-Powered Stem Separation
Say goodbye to complicated stem extraction! Studio One 7 now features AI-powered stem separation. With just a click, you can select which stems you need from an audio file. Here’s how it works:
• The original file gets muted while the selected stems are placed in a folder.
• If you only need a few stems, you can consolidate them into their own track, streamlining your workflow.
This feature is perfect for quickly extracting vocals, instruments, or any other elements from a track. 🎤
3. Integrated Clip Launcher
If you’re familiar with Ableton Live, you’ll appreciate the new integrated Clip Launcher in Studio One 7. This feature consists of cells that hold audio or instrument parts, which you can play individually or as a set, referred to as “scenes.” These scenes can be organized into playlists, allowing for quick arrangement changes during live performances or production sessions.
4. Interactive Scale and Loop Tools
Studio One 7 also introduces new scale and loop tools that help streamline production:
- Loop Tools
- The new loop tool for events and parts makes it easier to create and manipulate loops within your project. Once you hover over the bottom of any event you will get a new tool that will allow you to extend that event for as long as you want. Additionally, if you right-click on an event you can check the "Loop" box to auto-loop that event until your song's "End" marker.
- Interactive Scale Features
- Scale Panels: Gain upfront control of your scale lock and add user-defined scales. Simply click on the keys or notes you want to include and save it as a preset.
- Pitch Visibility:
- The ALL setting shows all programmed notes.
- The IN SCALE mode only displays notes within your chosen scale, removing any outside notes for a cleaner view.
- The USED mode shows only the notes you’ve played or programmed.
This feature allows you to work confidently within your scale parameters, ensuring a more cohesive sound. 🎹
5. Global Transpose and Advanced Tempo Detection
Studio One 7 simplifies transposing your music and detecting tempos with some fantastic new features:
- Global Transpose
- To activate global transpose, just check the “Follow Global Transpose” setting in the inspector for any track you wish it to affect. From there adjust the "Transpose" parameter in the transport control area to change the key of your song. To lock in changes, simply right-click the transpose parameter and select “Freeze Global Transposition.” 🔒
- Improved Tempo Detection
- The new algorithms in Studio One 7 make tempo detection more accurate. Right-click on any audio event and under the "Audio Processing" section, click on the “Detect Tempo” button to analyze your file, and it will display whether it’s a set tempo or a variable tempo.
6. New VSTs and Functionalities
Studio One 7 comes loaded with exciting new VSTs and functionalities:
- Impact Updates
- Load Impact directly into the note editor.
- Copy parameters between pads for quicker adjustments.
- Drag samples from Impact to Sample One and into the pattern editor.
- Create instrument parts from chopped audio loops for a more dynamic workflow.

7. Instrument Bus for Multi-Out Instruments
For instruments requiring multiple outputs, Studio One 7 now automatically nests them into what PreSonus calls an instrument bus. This feature allows you to:
• Expand or collapse the bus to save mixer space.
• Add inserts to the entire instrument through the bus or to individual channels.
This organization makes managing complex setups much more manageable.
